The Northeast Texas Community College rodeo team hosted their annual rodeo at the Mount Pleasant Rodeo Arena from Thursday, Oct. 10 through Saturday, Oct. 12. Along with hosting the rodeo, members of both the men?s and the women?s teams participated and placed in several events.
Sadie Johnson placed first in the breakaway event and fourth in the goat-tying, earning her enough points to take first in the ladies All Around Championship. The NTCC women?s team took third place overall.
In the men?s competition, Blake Strack placed third in the team roping event, riding with Chance Jones. Strack roped again with Cannon Fletcher, placing sixth, and Nathan Rail roped with Riley Rustad, placing eighth. Cannon Fletcher won third in the saddle bronc competition, and went on to earn fourth place in the men?s All Around Championship.
?We had three really good performances,? said NTCC Rodeo Coach Skylar Hunnicutt, ?I was real proud of the way the team worked the rodeo this weekend, they all showed up and did their part?
The Rodeo was held at the Mount Pleasant Rodeo Arena, which is maintained by the Mount Pleasant Rodeo Association (MPRA).
?The facility is amazing and the MPRA does a good job taking care of it. They take care of the arena, the grounds, all we have to do is show up and put on a rodeo? Hunnicutt said, adding that he wanted to thank CJ Mohl and Chad Henry for their contributions.
Other colleges and universities competing included: Hill College, McNeese State University, Panola College, Sam Houston State University, Southwest Texas Junior College, Texas A&M University, Texas A&M University-Commerce, Trinity Valley Community College, and Wharton County Junior College
The NTCC Rodeo team will compete again in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on Nov. 1 and 2.
