Boy meets girl. Girl writes boy. Girl and Boy correspond throughout their lives. That more or less sums up the romantic comedy,†Love Letters, by A. R. Gurney, to be presented by Theatre Northeast on March 2-4 at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on the Northeast Texas Community College campus.

Friday and Saturday (March 2 and 3) shows begin at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday, March 3 performance will be at 2:05 p.m.†Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 age 17 and under and $3 for senior citizens, NTCC faculty and staff. There is no charge for NTCC students with a current ID.

The play, which garnered a Pulitzer Prize nomination in 1988 for Best Play, is a simple, sweet, romantic play which chronicles a life-long relationship between best friends and soul-mates.††Andrew Makepeace Ladd III (Andy) and Melissa Gardener first write one another when Melissa asks Andy to her birthday party.

The written exchanges start out with passed notes and valentines in elementary school and evolve into letters swapped during boarding school, college and through adulthood. Via letters, they flirt, they fight, they forgive and they forge separate lives, remaining there for each other through the written word at each stage of life.

The play features real-life husband and wife, Nick and Brittany Derby, sophomores from Waskom, Texas. The couple were married on the stage of the Whatley Center in 2011.

Due to the intimate nature of the seating, reservations are requested by calling the Whatley Box Office 903-434-8181.†Love Letters†containssome adult content.
