Theatre Northeast, the student theatre group at Northeast Texas Community College, will present the classic children's Christmas comedy†The Best Christmas Pageant Ever December 3 and 4 at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts.
An evening performance will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. and there will be a 2:05 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Dec. 4.†Ticket prices are $5 for Adults, $3 for ages 17 and under, Sr. Citizens, NTCC Faculty and free for NTCC students with current ID. Reservations are not required.
This popular and beloved play by Barbara Robinson tells the story of the Herdmans, ?the worst kids in the whole history of the world. They lied and stole and smoked cigars,†even the girls, and talked dirty and hit little kids and cussed their teachers?? Sunday School was the only safe haven for the other children because the Herdmans never went there.††But when the Herdsmans show up one Sunday looking for chocolate cake, they hear about the Christmas pageant and decide they want to take part?or rather, take over!. To the dismay of everyone involved, the Herdsmans land the main parts in the play.††Although everyone expects a disaster, the Herdmans bring a fresh interpretation to the Christmas story?a story they had never heard before.
The cast includes Tyler Beadle, Cory Myers, Kati Barrett, Jessica Barrett, and Anne Phan (Mt. Pleasant) Mindy Pillsbury, Shauna Crumbaker and Kristen Jones (Omaha)††Brittany Derby and Nick Derby (Waskom) Stormy Mack and Ryan Lowery (Winnsboro) Tabitha Hooper (Mt. Vernon) Amanda Renfroe(Quitman) Ashley Rae Simpson and Jennifer Hargrave (Daingerfield) Cody Connelly (Gilmer) Elizabeth Griffin (Pittsburg)†Tiffany Wilmoth (Venus) Alyssa Sampson (Hughes Springs.††The production is directed by NTCC Theatre Director Douglas Hoppock.
This marks the twentieth anniversary of The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts and the twenty-second children?s play.††During the past twenty years, Theatre Northeast, in partnership with Communities-In-Schools, has performed before more than 85,000 area school children.
