Maintenance/Repair Technician

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: 

Under general supervision of the Director of Plant Services, the Maintenance/Repair employee is responsible for assistance in maintaining the college physical plant.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Works with various kind of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC equipment common to the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC trades.

2. Repairs and maintains various types of existing electrical, plumbing, and HVAC installations.

3. Installs new wiring and components requiring electrical hook up. Alters or modifies components requiring electrical power. 

4. Installs new plumbing and plumbing fixtures as required. 

5. Assists in room setup for special college events. 

6. Moves office and classroom furniture as needed.

7. Assists the Crafts Technician on projects where assistance is required.

8. Assists the grounds department when needed. 

9. Assists in keeping shop and work area clean. 

10. Performs related duties as assigned.

11. Replaces and checks all HVAC unit filters.

12. Inspect and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems to ensure they are functioning properly.

13. Assist with campus improvement projects, including renovations, furniture assembly, and general construction. 

14. Respond to maintenance service requests and emergencies promptly.

15. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and repairs. 

16. Follow safety regulations and procedures, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines. 

17. Collaborate with other maintenance personnel and outside contractors when necessary.

 

POSITION CHARACTERISTICS: 

1. Must be familiar with, and experienced in the use of tools common to the electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and HVAC  trades.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. Physically unimpaired in anyway. 

2. Ability to lift 50 lbs. 

3. Must be extremely alert to sights and sounds. 

4. High school diploma or G.E.D. required. 

5. One year’s experience in construction or maintenance trades.

6. Basic knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry systems.

7. Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals. 

8. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to details.

9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

10. Good communication skills and customer service orientation.

11. Valid driver's license required.
